AMP2041 is a synthetic antimicrobial peptide, patented by ICF. It is an innovative molecule, whose action is manifested by selectively damaging and perforating the bacterial membrane, against prokaryotic cells.
A special characteristic of the AMP2041 peptide, created by ICF, is its selective action, based on recognizing the differences in charge and composition of the cytoplasmic membranes of eukaryotic cells and prokaryotic bacteria and fungi.
The cellular membrane of bacteria is actually largely composed of a large number of phospholipids: phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylglycerol, and bis-phosphatidylglycerol - which are negatively charged, while the membranes of eukaryotic cells are composed of phosphatidylcholine, sphingomyelin, cholesterol - compounds with a neutral charge at physiological pH, thus not being attacked by peptides.
The action of AMP2041 is manifested by the perforation and destabilization of bacterial cell membranes, a fact demonstrated by numerous tests and clinical studies.
CHLORHEXIDINE DIGLUCONATE, even in minimal doses, has undeniable properties and accelerates the antimicrobial activity of AMP2041.
Tris-EDTA acts by destabilizing and intensifying the permeability of the bacterial membrane. The association of these molecules - AMP2041, Chlorhexidine digluconate, Tris-EDTA in low doses - has allowed the obtaining of effective, safe formulas with a high degree of selectivity and high compliance.
