FOOD FOR DIABETIC DOGS
Even if you found out that your pet has diabetes, don't panic, your dog can still live a long life, but its health and, of course, its diet must be monitored. The goal for any dog with diabetes mellitus is to keep its blood sugar (or glucose) level as close to normal as possible. This helps the dog feel better and thus avoid complications such as cataracts or various urinary tract infections.
Your veterinarian will determine how many calories your dog needs each day, depending on its weight and activity level. Once we know this, it is important to be very careful about the quantity and quality of food offered to the dog.
Most veterinarians recommend a high-fiber and low-fat diet. Fiber slows the entry of glucose into the blood and helps the dog feel full; low-fat foods have fewer calories. But, make sure the pet drinks plenty of water.
Regular exercise will also help the dog lose weight and lower blood sugar levels. It is recommended that the dog's training have the same duration and intensity every day. A long or very intense workout could cause blood sugar levels to drop more than normal, so be very careful.
Our recommendation is Equilibrio super premium food for diabetic dogs.
