The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the smallest dog breeds. Originating from Yorkshire, England (hence its name), this breed was historically used to hunt mice/rats, but later became a companion animal. Dogs of this breed are distinguished by their very small size, long, floor-length coat, and energetic attitude.

    Behavior

The Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog with a big personality; they are beloved for being affectionate, loyal, and energetic. They have become favorite dogs for people living in apartments because the Yorkshire Terrier has adapted to this environment. They tend to be alert and bark at unfamiliar sounds.

Due to their alert personality, they are suspicious of new people and are devoted to their owners. It is not recommended for them to be around children under 10 years old. Yorkshire Terriers can be playful and friendly, but can also be overly mischievous, depending on how they were raised/trained.

    Intelligence

Yorkshire Terriers are intelligent and can be trained to learn many commands and tricks in just 15 – 20 repetitions. Their curious, alert, and obedient personality is a reason why these dogs can learn so much. In the past, Yorkshire Terriers were used for hunting to flush out small animals from their burrows. The fact that they could hunt is closely related to an instinctive intelligence.

    Diet of Yorkshire Terrier Dogs

The Yorkshire Terrier has a delicate digestive system, so it is recommended to give them special food for their size and of a higher quality (premium, super premium). We should not offer them human food and must be careful not to overfeed them. This dog breed is prone to stomach problems, so we must be careful with their diet.
