    Diabetes in cats is characterized by insufficient production of insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas that is responsible for metabolizing glucose present in the blood, converting it into energy. In cases of dysfunction, there is a concentration of blood sugar that must be controlled to avoid other life-threatening complications for the animal.

    Symptoms of diabetes in cats:

    - When blood glucose levels reach a certain point, sugar is eliminated through urine and the animal begins to feel thirstier. In addition, it is normal for the cat to be hungrier, as the energy from glucose is not absorbed.

    - Urinary incontinence;

    - Fatigue;

    - Excessive thirst;

    - Increased appetite;

    - Weight loss;

    - Increased urine volume.

    Immediate treatment is essential to prevent the disease from worsening and to provide a better quality of life for your pet. There are different types of diabetes, and the care approach depends on the type of diagnosis for your pet. Generally, medications, insulin doses, exercise, and dietary adjustments are recommended.

    So-called diabetes mellitus is common in cats, being more frequent in obese and elderly animals. Although diabetes in cats is a recurrent diagnosis in veterinary practices, the mortality rate caused by the disease has decreased, and this is due to changes in diet.

    Animals that are prone to developing diabetes must receive food made from special ingredients that provide balanced nutrition and help control the disease.
